Career summary

Tim was a talented junior who won his first national title in 1997 with the U17 indoor 200m while still only 14. Originally a 200m specialist he stepped up to 400m in 2001 and won the European Junior title in only his 4th race over the distance.

He was helped by having Roger Black as a mentor as he established himself as Britain’s top 400m runner in 2004, His biggest career breakthrough came in 2005 when he smashed through the 45-second barrier to win at the London Grand Prix over Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner in 44.75.

In 2006 he switched to being coached by Colin Jackson from October but reverted to Tony Lester in July after he was 2nd at the European Cup in 45.67.
