Career summary

  • Martyn won silver at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, but his determination to win gold was illustrated by his animated confrontations with officials.

  • This characteristic was further demonstrated in Osaka in 2007 where he he set an outdoor best of 2.29 in qualifying, and in the final after clearing 2.21 passed all the way up to 2.33 andthen failed twice at 2.35 ¬as he had an injury and knew he had limited jumps.

  • Martyn studied psychology at John Moore’s University in Liverpool 2004-07.

  • He started in athletics as a middle distance runner. He missed out on the Olympics in 2004 after an ankle injury prevented him from repeating his good form in the main part of the season.
