Preparing to lead the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland Team at next month’s IAAF World Road Running Championships, Mara Yamauchi (Harrow AC) achieved a morale-boosting victory in the Fortis Rotterdam Half Marathon in the Netherlands.
She led from start to finish and won in 70 minutes 38 seconds, 1 minute and 49 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Mindaye Gishu (Ethiopia) with Aya Manome (Japan) a further 23 seconds back in third place.
Yamauchi, the Commonwealth Games 10,000m bronze medallist who led home the UK contingent at this year’s Flora London Marathon, will race over 20km at the World Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, on 8 October alongside Norwich Union GB Team mates Natalie Harvey (South London Harriers), Wendy Jones (Winchester) and Susan Partridge (City of Glasgow AC).
