Nick McCormick achieved the European Championships 5000 metres qualifying standard at the Andalucian Games in Huelva Spain on Tuesday night.
The Lindsay Dunn coached athleted from Hexham, posted a mark of 13minutes 25.34seconds to better the Gothenburg qualifying standard of 13:32.00.
His performance although finishing well down the field in 16th position, also surpassed UK Athletics elite standard of 13:32.00.
Boniface Kiprop third in last month's BUPA Great Manchester Run, in a sprint finish with six athletes under 13:10, won the race in a time of 13:09.03.
Uganda's Commonwealth 10000m champion beat-off the challenges of Kiprono Menjo from kenya and Ibrahim Jeylan who clocked 13:09.24 and 13.09.38.
Mark Lewis-Francis was third over 100m in 10.45sec wiith his fellow Olympic 4x100m relay gold medallist Darren Campbell disqualfied.
Ed Jackson (3:42.82) placed third over 1500m, while Rhys Williams (49.67) and Matt Douglas (50.54) were second and fifth in the 400m hurdles.
Nathan Morgan took runners-up honours in the long jump clearing 7.93m while Chris Tomlinson was fifth with a best effort of 7.74m.
Martyn Bernard and Germaine Mason both cleared 2.19m for sixth and eigth positions in the high jump while Katrina Wootton with a time of 4:10.58 finished fourth over 1500m.
