Coaches of victorious athletes at this year's Sunday Mail Scottish National Championships will be presented with gold championship medals as recognition for the success of their athletes. Although it is commonplace in many other sports, particularly team sports, this is thought to be a first for athletics.
Pierce O'Callaghan, Events Manager, scottishathletics said: "It is generally accepted in football, rugby and other sports for winning coaches to step onto the podium and collect their medal along with their teams- why should that not be the case in athletics?
"Coaches make an enormous contribution to the success of our athletes and we want to be able to acknowledge the dedication and expertise they bring to our sport."
The Sunday Mail Scottish National Championships take place at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow on 12/13 August.
