Following the resignation of Mike Winch as Vice President of the UK Members Council (UKMC), the process of recruiting his replacement has now been outlined by President Lynn Davies.
The current Council Members, as guardians of the sport of athletics, will co-opt a Vice President to serve until 2009, when Mr Winch’s term of office was due to come to an end. This person could be an existing member of the council or a member of the wider athletics family. Whoever is co-opted to serve will then be eligible for election as Vice President before the 2009 AGM.
Lynn Davis, who will step down as President in 2011 said:
“There is a fantastic opportunity here for the UKMC to think ahead and co-opt someone who would be a good candidate to succeed me post 2011. This person will then have the opportunity to play an instrumental role in the sport at the London Games in 2012 and beyond.
“The next step is for us to nominate people who we think would be appropriate to invite to be co-opted as Vice President and then it is likely we will form a sub-committee to consider those nominations and get things moving as quickly as possible.”
