Career summary

Michael’s dad was a keen road runner which interested Michael in the sport as he went to watch him at 5km and 10k races. Before that point Michael was a keen county level swimmer.

In 1998 Michael won the Sports Stars of the future award presented to him by Steve Backley, Justin Rose and Denise Lewis in London.

After medalling at his first ever Paralympics in Sydney, Michael was frustrated when injury kept him from competing in Athens in 2004. Outside of athletics Michael enjoys rowing and is working towards a degree in Sports Management at the University of Salford.

Michael took part in the Manchester 2002 Commonwealth Torch relay, and his heroes are Linford Christie, Michael Johnson and Carl Lewis. Michael also admires CP Paralympian’s Stephen Miller and Stephen Payton for their achievements in the sport.
