Career summary
-
In 2000 John had a motorbike accident which resulted in him having his right leg amputated above the knee.
-
John made his GB debut in 2005 at the European Championships, just months after he started training with successful coach Darrell Maynard.
-
John performed well under pressure at his first World Championships, in Assen in 2006. He started with a bronze in the T42 200m and following that up with silver over 100m meant he had to hold his nerve in the 100m final – a race that saw four false starts and three disqualifications.
-
Michael Johnson, Seb Coe and Lance Armstrong are amongst his heroes. He met the Queen when his dad received an OBE. He is currently working his way through a list of 30 things he wants to achieve before the age of 30, but can already play guitar and speak French!
-
He has a degree and masters in Sport and Exercise Science, and he attended both Swansea and UWIC. He is a keen outdoors person taking part in climbing, mountain treking and adventure racing. The only thing that ever slowed him up was in 2006 when he had his prosthetic limb stolen from the boot of his car.
