The UK Cross Challenge Series was launched in 1997 with extensive prize money to encourage the best of the UK's cross country runners to race each other on a regular basis.
The series was conceived, basically, after a group of ambitious endurance athletes voiced the opinion that they would improve if they were able to race against each other more often.
The challenge for administrators was to introduce the Series without further over-loading an already congested fixture list, and this was done by incorporating UK Cross Challenge events into existing fixtures.
Since it began, the UK Cross Challenge Series has been enlarged and developed to provide competitive events which have helped towards the success of Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland Teams at successive European and World Cross Country Championships. It has also given up-and-coming athletes the opportunity to match themselves against established cross country stars, and has been expanded to cater for all age-groups, Senior, Under 20, Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13.
With up to £13,500 of prizes on offer, the new winter's Challenge guarantees some fantastic racing.
