UKA have a commercial partnership with adidas. adidas are the official apparel suppliers to the GB & NI Athletics Team and UKA. As part of selection to the GB & NI athletics team you will be provided with appropriate kit to fulfill your obligations, as outlined below. You are required to wear the allocated kit for official duties regardless of any personal sports apparel relationships you may have.
GB & NI team kit is issued to athletes on a two-year cycle (currently until March 2009). There will only be one main issue of kit during this cycle, although you may be issued with supplementary items if you are selected for numerous internationals. It is therefore extremely important that kit from this current cycle is not:
- Swapped – (no replacement items will be issued).
- Over worn on occasions other than during GB and NI representation.
In the case of kit being damaged a like-for-like replacement will be made where possible.
With regards to GB & NI kit, you will receive a different amount of clothing depending upon the competition for which you have been selected. Athletes selected for championships of over 3 days duration will receive a substantial package of competition and non-competition clothing. For GB & NI Internationals and Representative matches you will receive a presentation suit and/or tracksuit and competition kit plus additional items depending upon the competition and likely weather conditions. For example the allocation would be different for indoor and outdoor competitions, and cross-country matches in hot or cold climates.
Any specific individual’s needs can be discussed with your Point of Contact at UKA but cannot be guaranteed.
Official Team Duties
As a member of the GB & NI team you may be asked to perform a number of roles as part of the Official GB & NI Team Duties. Whilst performing these duties you are required to wear the GB & NI Team Kit as required by UKA. For the avoidance of doubt the Official GB & NI Team Duties are attendance by the Athlete at:
(i) Press conferences/announcements relating to GB & NI Team selection
(ii) All elements of official GB & NI Team travel, (unless advised)
(iii) Send-offs and homecoming events
(iv) Photo shoots promoting a UKA Team Partner’s association with the GB & NI Team held at send-offs, homecomings, during travel, whilst at training or holding camps or at any other time once the GB & NI Team has been convened to travel to an event or competition
(v) Opening and closing ceremonies at international competitions
(vi) GB & NI Team competition within the competition and warm up area(s)
(vii) GB & NI Team training/holding camps
(viii) Media activity connected to the GB & NI Team including press conferences relating to announcements of injury, illness or retirement; press/ media interviews during training or preparation camps organised, funded and supported by UKA or its Team Partners; media activity at warm up and stadium venues to include a mixed zone interview; press conferences relating to post event analysis
(x) Official GB & NI Team photo shoots and kit launches; and
(xi) Promotions/announcements of GB and NI Team bid events on behalf of UKA.
GB & NI Team clothing requirements do not apply to footwear (but do apply to socks), eyewear, watches or other non-competition products. You are free to wear your own personal choice of these items at events, and other competitions, providing these items carry standard approved branding and fully comply with IAAF regulations. If you are unsure about this, please check with your Team Leader prior to competition.
The amount of clothing provided to you to meet the official team duties is determined on a case-by-case basis and will be reflective of the roles being asked.
The GB & NI Team kit provided on most occasions would also be Norwich Union branded, as Norwich Union are the official title sponsors to the GB & NI Team. However, for certain events, (for example IAAF Championships) kit is not branded with the Norwich Union logo due to local regulations.
As Norwich Union provide a significant amount of funding to support the GB & NI Team you must not alter or amend the GB and NI Team Kit nor conceal or interfere with any supplier / Commercial Partner logo or advertising material that has been applied to it. You are also asked to take reasonable care of and not to cause any damage to the GB & NI Team Kit.
