Important additions to the website, which should be read by all WCPP athletes and those with an interest in gaining selection to the Olympic and Paralympic teams for Beijing.
Firstly, we have placed the UKA selection policies which have been developed in conjunction with colleagues at the BOA and BPA. As usual, these are rather “legal” in nature; please feel free to get in touch with your performance point of contact if you have any questions. The biggest change of note to both documents is the inclusion of a prescribed “fitness to perform”, which obviously differs from event to event. As the documents show, these tests will be employed under very specific circumstances, to help team management demonstrate fitness to be competitive.
The third document describes a new “fast” appeal process which will be used for appeals against selection to major events. The process is deliberately designed to be quick so that, whatever the result of the appeal, no athlete is left hanging and any interference to preparation is minimised.
The fourth document provides an update of the appeals procedure which should be used against decisions on inclusion/exclusion from the WCPP.
The remaining documents give qualification requirements and designated events. The list of designated events for Paralympic qualification will be updated regularly to reflect confirmation of competition dates and the IPC status of each event.
In all cases, documentation has been developed through considerable consultation with all interested parties. Please make sure you are clear on the details and feel free to come back with questions and comments as necessary.
