One of the major challenges faced by the Anti-Doping Department is ensuring that appropriate and accurate information is available to all sectors of our sport. Athletes (of all ages and levels), coaches, parents, medical support staff, officials and other members of the athlete’s support group all need to able to access appropriate information in order to understand and comply with the anti-doping regulations.
UKA Anti-Doping education takes many forms and includes the following:
The Anti-Doping section of this website provides comprehensive information which is easily accessible to all. Much of the information can also be provided in printed form free of charge - simply email antidoping@ukathletics.org.uk with your contact details and your requirements, and we can send information out.
Two other excellent websites are the UK Sport website www.uksport.gov.uk and www.100percentme.co.uk Here you can find a variety of doping-related information and the excellent Drug Information Database, a search engine which allows you to check the status of any medication which you may be using.
Teams - Up-to-date anti-doping information is sent to GB representative teams to ensure that they have all the latest anti-doping information before they travel to their competitions.
Medical support - a trained medical practitioner supports the Anti-Doping team. Together we are able to answer medical queries, whether it is concerning specific medical conditions relating to athletics or the suitability of medication in relation to the anti-doping rules.
Presentations - the Anti-Doping Department is regularly asked to provide speakers to talk to athletes, coaches and other support staff on anti-doping matters. This service is provided free of charge and is an excellent way to get the anti-doping message to the people who are directly affected by the rules.
