David Littlewood

David Littlewood is previously served on the IAAF Technical Committee from 1997 to 1999 and was a member of a small Working Group involved with re-organising the technical rules within the IAAF Handbook 2000 edition. He has had widespread experience in the areas of rules and their revision and officiating at the highest level within the sport.

He is an International Technical Official, a member of the panel of IAAF International Photofinish Judges and a member of the Athletics Technical Commission of the International School Sports Federation (ISF). David has wide experience at Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Championships. Since 1981, he has been Chairman of the British Technical Officials’ Committee and has officiated at more than a hundred international meetings within the United Kingdom as Track Judge, Track Referee, Chief Photofinish Judge, or Meeting Manager. He was Track Referee at the Universiade (1991), European Cup Bruno Zauli (1989 and 1994), the European Junior Championships (1987) and the Commonwealth Games (Manchester, 2002). He was the International Photofinish Judge at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona (1995), Lisbon (2001) and at the World Cup in South Africa in 1998. Referee at the World Half Marathon in Bristol (2001) and Chief Photofinish Judge and member of the Technical Organising Committee at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham (2003). He will be an International Photofinish Judge for the IAAF World Championships in Paris (2003) and International Technical Official for the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Budapest (2004).

 

Since 1981, he has been Honorary Secretary of the UK Rules Revision Group and has been responsible for producing the UK Athletics Rulebook every two years. Additionally, he is the Records Officer for both Britain and England. Whilst serving on the UK Drugs Advisory Committee for over 10 years, he was responsible for drafting the rules governing the operation of the extensive programme of testing carried out, both in and out of competition.


He has organised officials’ courses abroad for the IAAF and is a frequent contributor to conferences on the development of the sport for young people. The author of a book on Track Judging, he has also been the Referee of the London Marathon for the past nineteen years. David Littlewood’s vast technical knowledge and wide experience make him an ideal candidate for the IAAF Technical Committee and UKA is proud to support David’s nomination.
